I decided I didn't want to load up the yak and head out this afternoon. So, I put a couple of poles in the back of the Jeep and headed over to the Pitt Street Bridge. I stopped at Magwood's on the way and picked up a pound of heads on medium shrimp for $3 to use for bait.
I looked at my tide clock before I left the house, so I knew it was low tide and I wasn't very hopeful. When I arrived at the bridge and saw how low the tide was, I was shocked. I don't remember seeing it that low there. It must have been the wind because he tide log isn't calling for spring tides right now.
Not one to be dismayed by bad tides, I pitched a piece of shrimp out under a float at one of the deeper spots of the area. It was quickly stolen by something small. I put a brim hook on with the hope of catching a few pinfish to use for cut bait later on. No luck. Whatever was stealing the bait was too small for even a brim hook. I decided that rather than through a bunch of shrimp at fish too small to catch or wait two or three hours for the tide to come up, I would cut my losses and have shrimp for dinner. These were some good sized shrimp and I only used a half dozen before I made my decision. I took the rest home and deheaded them. They are in the freezer to be cooked in an hour or two.
